European Online Gambling Companies Strike Back Against United States
The United States has done everything within its power to eliminate the highly successful online gambling market from the country. European sites are now taking action against the U.S. form of protectionism that today, President Bush said he does not support in any way.
Online gambling firms out of Europe have filed a formal complaint against the United States. The complaint claims that the U.S. discriminated against the foreign companies after kicking them out of the American market.
"We have been left with no choice but to pursue all legal avenues available to challenge the U.S. Department of Justice for its discriminatory enforcement activities against European online gaming operators," said Clive Hawkswood, the Chief Executive of the RGA.
The foreign firms are claiming that the U.S. has chosen to pursue legal action against their companies, but have not gone after any companies located within the United States.
"How would U.S. investors and businessmen feel if they invested in a business in the UK based on international law commitments, and then suddenly the UK not only passed new laws forcing them to shut down their business but tried to throw them in jail for past activities, while still allowing their domestic competitors to continue on doing the same thing?" said Hawkswood.
It is clear that the battle over Internet gambling has reached high levels and this is another step towards putting pressure on the U.S. government to once again legalize and regulate online gambling.
