First Online Gambling Ads Banned In UK Under New Laws
Online gambling ads have never really been regulated in the UK. Up until last September, that is. Back in September new laws were put in place regarding the content of online gambling companies' advertisements.
This week, the Advertising Standard Authority made the first two examples of what will not be tolerated under the new law. Paddy Power and Intercasino have both had ads banned due to content.
In the Paddy Power ad, the company drew a comparison between gambling and sexual activity using words such as "enhanced attractiveness, seduction, and sexual success." The Authority called the link, "irresponsible."
In another ruling, the Authority claimed the ad was too appealing to children, and banned it from being shown as well. The two ads being banned will serve as notice to other companies who are pushing the boundaries with their advertising campaigns.
In September, it was determined that tougher laws were needed to help keep children away from gambling. Any ad that targets children, or could be perceived to be targeting children, will not be allowed under the new law.
