Gambling Ads In Nova Scotia Drawing Ire Of Anti-Gambling Group
In Nova Scotia, ads have been running that show young athletes playing their sports. The reason for the ad is to show people that their gambling money is being used in a positive manner.
The children in the ads have received funds from gaming revenue to help in their training. It is part of the reason that the gambling system is in place, but an anti-gambling group is making waves over the ads.
The group, GameOverVLT's, suggests that Nova Scotia Gaming, "is using underage and youth athletes to promote gambling." That is according to the group's director, Terry Fulmer. As is the case with most anti-gambling groups, GameOver is seeking vengeance.
The group has called for the resignation of some of the Nova Scotia Gaming's executives. They feel that the gaming authority is using children as a way of promoting gambling, but some believe that the group has taken the ads a little too literally.
"All the ads are showing is that gambling funds are being used to help the children of Nova Scotia," said observer Darryl Grant, "It is no different than lotteries that are set up where the funds go towards education."
The group in Nova Scotia believes that the Gaming Corp. is violating their own rules by featuring the youth athletes. There has been no comment yet from the Gaming Corp.
