Gambling Lobbyists Spent $1.7 Million Last Year For Legislation
Lobbyists serve as important pieces to most legislation that gets passed. When the lobbying group is powerful, more often than not, their agendas are satisfied.
The American Gaming Association last year spent $1.7 million on lobbying the Federal Government. Their intentions were to have legislation passed regarding Internet gambling.
The group is going about their business in an extremely political way. They have not been lobbying for the regulation of Internet gambling. Knowing the dangers in that, they instead are lobbying to fund a federal study on Internet gambling's impact.
The group is heavily opposed to legislation being passed that would super cede a state's authority to regulate gambling. The Association turned up their efforts in the second half of 2007 by spending $800,000 for lobbying.
There are some major companies that are members of the American Gaming Association. MGM Mirage is a part of the Association. Bally Technologies Inc., one of the leaders in their field, are also members.
