Gambling Odds For The Oscars Becoming Popular Among Bettors
It was always fun to sit around the television and watch the Oscar awards show. Everybody in the room would make their predictions right before the award was announced, and the person who correctly picked the winners received bragging rights.
Now there is a different kind of elation that can be derived from watching the Oscars. The elation that comes along with winning money.
Odds Makers have put out the odds on this years Oscar awards. While in the past they have done this also, it is becoming increasingly popular among gamblers to actually take a stab at winning some money on these awards.
This year, like every other, the three main categories are Best Picture, Best actor, and Best Actress. Daniel Day-Louis is the favorite to win the lead actor award. He is -1450. Johnny Depp and George Clooney are the second choice at +800. Tommy Lee Jones and Viggo Mortensen are the long shots at +2200 and +1800, respectively.
For the women, the leading actress category also will be a landslide, according to odds makers. Julie Christie is the favorite at -335. The other four women are all plus numbers to win. Marion Cotillard +275, Ellen Page +475, and Cate Blanchett and Laura Linney are both +1800.
Blanchett is also nominated, and is the co-favorite, in the Best Supporting Actress category. The two nominations are for two different movies.
The closest race of the night could come in the Best Picture category. All five movies are clumped together in their odds of winning. No Country For Old Men is the favorite at -325. There Will Be Blood is +220. Juno is +450, Atonement +500, and Michael Clayton is the dark horse at +2200.
This years Oscars will be held on Sunday, February twenty Fourth at 8:00 Eastern time.
