Gambling Will Be Offered On Good Friday In Australia

When it comes to making money, there is not much a company will not do. That usually involves making unpopular decisions that will be met with anger, and sometimes, protest.
One of those difficult decisions was made this week by Tabcorp, a gambling company in Australia. The company has announced that they will be open and accepting bets on Good Friday. The initial response was one of displeasure.
"It's not that we're leading the charge, we're responding to where the market is moving," Tabcorp's Managing Director of wagering, told 702 ABC Sydney Local Radio, "We believe we need to offer a choice to customers, fully respecting the right of every individual to decide what they do on that day."
Of course the religious sector has quickly jumped on the decision made by Tabcorp. They believe that the holy day should be respected and that companies like Tabcorp should make it easier, and not harder, for people to observe the day.
On Good Friday this year, there are two NRL matches and also simulcast horse races that are available to have bets placed on them. Tabcorp believes several million dollars will be lost if they do not open for their customers.
"We are simply offering a choice, an entertainment option for that afternoon. We're responding to demand and doing this strictly on commercial grounds," said Nathan.
