Google Reversing Course On Gambling Ads In UK
Google has for a long time not accepted any type of gambling ads, that policy is being changed by the company. They now will allow gambling ads by companies that are registered in the UK with the Gambling Commission.
The change means that any company that is registered by the Commission will now be allowed to run ads that will appear in search queries in the UK. The move is being done since gambling ads are legal in the UK.
"We hope this change will enhance the search experience for users and help advertisers connect with interested consumers," said James Cashmore. Although the ads will be seen, Google will still be filtering them.
Any user who has the Safe Search filter running will not be able to see the ad. Any gambling ads that come in will be classified as Non-Family Safe regardless of how graphic the ad is. That will ensure that the ads do not get seen by children.
While people in the UK will get the luxury of seeing these ads, Google has not changed their policy to the rest of the world. Non-UK companies will not be left out in the cold. They will be able to run ads targeting Great Britain as long as they are licensed to advertise in their own country.
