A calculation error has been alleged by a bidder to operate video gambling machines in Illinois and the confusion is causing some trouble for the winning bidder. The state has canceled its contract with Scientific Games Corp. and will start the process over again.
Intralot, a foreign company based in Greece, has asserted that its bid was lower than the winning proposal from Scientific Games. Intralot claims that the Gaming Board miscalculated its proposal, and that they should have been awarded the contract.
"We have determined that there were misunderstandings by the bidders and IGB regarding the various assumptions that were to be used by the bidders in formulating their proposals and by the IGB in evaluating their proposals," said the gaming Board in an e-mail written to Intralot in response to their inquiry into the process.
Illinois lawmakers legalized video gambling in an effort to help strengthen local economy's throughout the state. Each area had the right to ban the video gambling machines, but the time frame to ban the machines has come and gone. Those that had approved the machines were getting ready to have the machines installed.
Scientific Games has not given up the battle to win the rights to the contract. The company believes that they were the winning bidder, and they stand by their assertion that they are the best company to help Illinois into the video gaming industry.
Illinois has become one of many states that have expanded their gambling options in recent years. Casino resorts have become a popular way to bring jobs to areas hit hard by the economic recession. Delaware has gone as far as to legalize sports betting for their residents.
