Illinois Preparing For New Wave Of Video Gambling
Governor Pat Quinn has brought Illinois into the twenty first century earlier this year in regards to their gambling laws. The governor signed a law that will allow video gambling machines for establishments with liquor licenses.
Many towns and cities have already stopped the video gambling machines from entering their area. The law gave these areas a grace period during which they could ban the machines. Once that grace period is over, establishments can apply for the rights to operate the machines.
That is where the change over will take place from the current video gambling options to the new form. Currently, bars operate these machines, but they are forbidden to pay out cash winnings. The new machines will offer cash to winners.
The other change that will take place is the state's involvement in overseeing the operation of the machines. Any establishment with a liquor license will be allowed to operate up to five machines. Those machines will be locked into a central computer network that will be set up by the state.
The process of setting up the state network has been a complicated one that not many bar owners understand. One thing is certain, however. The owners of these establishments are prepared fully to abide by whatever laws the state decides to enact.
"We're waiting on the state to get their computer network set up," said Dana Denny, Mattoon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4325, "We'll comply with whatever the law requires."
