Iowa Lottery Staying Out Of Video Gambling Debate
Lawmakers in the state of Iowa are discussing the possibility of bringing back video gambling machines, but they are not being urged to do so by the group that would benefit the most. The Iowa Lottery said they would not lobby for the return of video gambling.
It was the lottery that had TouchPlay gambling machines installed at convenience stores and bars in the state. In 2006, however, the machines were banned because many people felt that they were too easily accessible.
Recently, lawmakers have began discussions about possibly bringing back the video gambling machines. The lawmakers believe that if the machines were properly regulated, that they could be a helpful tool for increasing revenue for Iowa.
The head of the Iowa Lottery, CEO Terry Rich, claims that the lottery will serve as a point of reference for lawmakers. If legislators want to know how much could be generated, or how the machines could be regulated, then the lottery would offer advice.
The state of Iowa is searching for ways to help a suffering budget. Gambling has become the number one idea for many of these states. Some states have increased their lottery options, while others have turned to casinos to help increase revenue.
