Larry Forgione's Son Makes Online Gamblers Proud With Iron Chef Win
Reality television has taken over in prime time and even on cable channels, reality television is king. On Sunday night, The Next Iron Chef competition came to a close on the Food Network, and it was a familiar name that walked away with the victory.
Marc Forgione is the son of the Godfather of American Cuisine, Larry Forgione. The youngster not only made his dad proud on Sunday evening, but also thousands of online gamblers who had placed wagers on the competition.
As is the case with almost all reality television these days, online and Las Vegas sports books offer odds on the contestants. Those who chose Forgione from the beginning did not receive big rewards, because he was considered to be one of the favorites.
In other reality competitions in the past couple of years, underdog gamblers have made out well. The biggest payoffs have come on American Idol, where two years in a row, a male contestant that had over ten to one odds when the live shows began, won.
With The Next Iron Chef and Dancing with the Stars, it is a little harder to find lightning in a bottle. These shows have strong favorites from the start, and it is rare that any of the lesser popular contestants pull of an upset to win the entire competition.
Forgione was up against another of the favorites on Sunday's episode. Chef Marco Canora had been considered a potential winner, but he fell short in the finale. The two had to deliver a Thanksgiving dinner aimed at honoring one of America's most treasured and celebrated holidays.
