Hurricane Katrina created a lot of devastation in Louisiana. Some families still have not recovered from the personal loss that was experienced from the natural disaster.

One man, Carl Hunter, lost two houses in the after effects of the storm. Now, years after that heartbreak, Hunter's luck has changed. He and his wife were the proud owners of a Powerball gambling lottery ticket that was a winner

Hunter claims he bought the ticket while out buying milk. The couple had already bought their tickets for that drawing, but when he had to buy the milk, Hunter bought another ticket.

It turned out that the ticket was a winner, and although the drawing was back in January, the couple did not cash the winning ticket until this week. Hunter owns a small business and claims he wanted to finish existing projects before cashing the ticket and retiring.

Asked about not cashing the ticket, Hunter said, "I just had a lot of things I needed to do first." He told the Associated Press, "I'm retiring, you know, naturally." The couple chose to take the lump sum payout that was worth $34 million.

Hunter claims he will now fix a fishing camp that was also destroyed during Hurricane Katrina.
