Minnesota And Pennsylvania Lottery Gamblers Playing Mega Millions

The Mega Millions lottery jackpot will be one of the most discussed topics as the new year begins this week. Ticket sales in Pennsylvania, Minnesota, and many other states are skyrocketing after nobody hit the winning numbers on the latest drawing.

On Friday night, gamblers in states that offer the Mega Millions lottery had one last chance to break the multi-million jackpot in 2010. That opportunity came and went with no winners, and now the jackpot is estimated at $290 million for the next drawing on Tuesday.

The winning numbers have been elusive as of late, and that has caused the jackpot to grow close to $300 million. Lottery officials believe that there is a chance the jackpot reaches that golden number before the drawing this week. If nobody hits the jackpot Tuesday, the next drawing would be on Friday.

Mega Millions is one of two lotteries that can be played in different states. Powerball also spans many states, and both have had their moment in the sun when it comes to high jackpots. As 2011 began, Mega Millions was on the minds of thousands of gamblers who would like nothing more than to take home the cash payout of $182.6 million.

"I only play the Mega Millions lottery once in a while, but this week I have already bought my tickets," said Mario Benedetti from Long Island, New York. "What better way to start the new year than with a $300 million payday after a long and expensive holiday season?"

The lottery jackpot had been growing at about $5 to $7 million a drawing. With both Powerball and Mega Millions, however, the amount of tickets being sold increases dramatically when the jackpots get over the $150 million plateau. Mega Millions holds their drawings every Tuesday and Friday evenings.
