Mobile Gambling Set to Boom to $16 Billion a Year, by 2011

The mobile gambling market is going to boom by 2011, according to a new study just released by Juniper Research. The mobile gambling boom started in early 2006 and more companies were focusing their efforts on expanding into that market until expansion was halted when the US passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement in late 2006. Most of the companies that were focusing on the mobile market then had to change their focus in order to find markets that could sustain their business, many chose to dive into the Asian market.

"The tightening of the legal barriers to online and mobile gambling in the USA in 2006 have had an impact throughout the industry, stifling the growth of the young and fragile mobile channel, as gambling industry brands reassess their market and channel strategies," said Bruce Gibson, author of the research article.

"A number of the leisure brands that we saw beginning to focus on the mobile channel early in 2006 have changed their priorities in the light of industry developments in the second half of the year," Gibson said.

Even with the refocus, the results of the research reveal that they still expect the boom to come and they expect it to reach $16 billion a year by 2011. One catch of the statistic is that the $16 billion a year projection is not in revenue generated, but rather the total expected bets placed over mobile devices.

The research indicates that the market is ready to be abused (in a good way) in the English market. The country, along with the rest of European countries are turning to legalization of online gambling and most EU countries are used to mobile devices that can handle the gambling action. However, the Asia Pacific market is expected to show the fastest growth through to 2011, rapidly overtaking the European market at maturity.
