Nevada Lawmakers Looking To UNLV Study For Online Gambling Answers
UNLV is trying to help lawmakers figure out the effects of online gambling, and the results of the college's study could help shape the way for future laws.
Online gambling has been virtually shut down by the U.S. government, but UNLV is conducting a study that is examining the amount of Nevadians that gamble online and testing gamblers attitudes towards legalizing online gambling.
The state Gaming Control Board is commissioning the study, and the results could be used as an important tool for informing lawmakers about both the good points and the downfalls of gambling being regulated online.
Gaming attorney Tony Cabot, from Las Vegas, feels regulation is warranted, "It's historically been the policy of the state of Nevada to regulate gaming so that we can protect patrons and make sure they get paid when they win."
Cabot also believes that the study may show that there are enough people gambling online to entice the state to tap into that market.
The study is expected to be released within the next couple of weeks.
