Online Casinos Could Be Beneficiary Of Bad Weather In U.S.
If the American government ever wanted to see the impact that online casinos have in their country, all they have to watch is the spike in numbers over the next couple of months. With Mother Nature reeking havoc on the United States, online casinos are set to be the beneficiary.
Hurricanes have been driving through United States cities and have threatened many land based casinos. If the casinos have not been shut down by the weather, at the least they have lost customers who do not want to travel in the bad weather.
After Hurricane Katrina a couple of years ago, many casinos ensured that they would be prepared the next time a major hurricane hit. Even though they have prepared well, it still does not mean the people will come out to gamble.
"With online gambling becoming as popular as it is, people don't need to come to the casinos anymore. While they will come for a social gathering, when the weather is bad they just stay home and gamble online," said Jim Forrester, a dealer at a prominent casino in Louisiana.
This week, Hurricane Ike is moving towards the U.S. and it is packing some devastating winds and rain. Should it hit the Gulf Coast, where projections have it hitting land, casinos could be forced to close.
Already in the past few weeks several casinos have closed because of mandatory evacuations from past storms. Ike is the next in the line of storms that have made their way towards the United States this year.
