Online Gamblers Take A Break To Watch Presidential Address

USA Players Accepted at Rome Casino!

Online poker players have been getting back into their routines after many of them traveled this summer to Las Vegas to play in the World Series of Poker. On Tuesday evening, some online gamblers took a break to watch the presidential address.

The US is a key market for online poker sites and the country is considered to be the top market in the world for online gambling. Recently, Representative Barney Frank and other lawmakers have pushed to change the current laws in the country regarding online gambling.

Rep. Frank would like to see the US regulate online gambling instead of attempting to criminalize the activity. In 2006, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was created, although since the law has gone into affect, not much has changed in the industry in regards to the US.

Opponents to Rep. Frank's bill include Rep. Spencer Bacchus. Frank has received support from many different legislators, and one that may be key to a new law passing is Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Reid has previously opposed Internet gambling regulations, but indications in the past couple of months suggest Reid may be softening, or even changing, his stance.

Sen. Reid represents Nevada, the casino gambling capital of the US. Las Vegas casino companies had long been opposed to online gambling, but some of the major company's may be shifting their stance on the issue. Harrah's Entertainment has gone as far as to launch online casinos with the Caesars brand. US players are not accepted at these casinos.

Tuesday night, President Obama, who has a storied history of appreciating poker, gave his address to the nation. The majority of the address centered on the end of the combat mission in Iraq. years after former President George Bush declared war, the total number of land soldiers has finally gone under 50,000.
