Online Gambling Sites See Traffic Drop : Results Not Accurate
Reports from Nielsen/NetRatings that measure internet traffic across niches throughout the world saw a 56% drop in US gambling traffic from September to October.
The drop in traffic to gambling sites in the US came directly after the United States passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act which led many sites from the UK to drop out of the US market.
The Nielsen/NetRatings only track traffic for 10 of the major internet gambling sites. Therefore, their findings may not be a very accurate depiction of actual traffic to online gambling sites, becuase of the 10 sites the company tracks 3 stopped accepting US bettors after the law was passed. Those three web sites are Party Poker, Sportsbook.com, and UltimateBet.com.
It is to be assumed that actual traffic didn't lower as much as the Nielson/NetRatings depict because the traffic was merely diverted to other sites that the company does not track.
Even with the massive drop of traffic reported from September to October, comparisons from this October and October 2005 show a 19% increase in gambling traffic.
