Play65 Online Backgammon Players Make It To Final Event Offline

Two of Play65 players who won the "Italy"' tournaments have made it to the final event of the Double Davis European Championship at the 19th City of Venice International Backgammon Tournament. Giuseppe Ricciardi of Italy took the championship of the shared the finalist title with Uli Koch.

The online backgammon site Play65 had flew, on its expense, four online backgammon champs to compete in a real-life backgammon event; not any event, but the 19th City of Venice International Backgammon Tournament, set up by the World Backgammon Association. The established backgammon tournament took place at the Casino of Venice set inside a historical palace on the Grand Canal from November 29 to December.

The 19th City of Venice International Backgammon Tournament championship title was won by Damian Plesec, a backgammon player of Slovenia who beat Japanese Masahito Yamamoto in the final game. double event (along with his partner Piero Gallo), while Michael Schmidt of Germany By winning the championship, Mr. Plesec had ensured its participation in the first event at the 2008 European Backgammon Tour.

The Double "Davis" European Championship is one of the most attractive events at the International Backgammon Tournament. This year, the championship of the double event was almost wholly dominated by representatives of the online backgammon group of Play65.

Both Mr. Ricciardi, the Double "Davis" European champion, and Mr. Schmidt, the finalist, had entered the event after winning in an online backgammon satellite tournament organized by Play65. Since it was a double championship, (similar to the double "Davis" in tennis) the two will have to share their prize money with their partners.
