When people speak out against legalized casino gambling, they usually point to the dangers of problem gambling in their attacks. This week, however, may show that there is a much more dangerous form of gambling that already exists throughout the US-lottery gambling.

The Mega Millions lottery jackpot has reached one of those magical figures where even people who do not normally buy tickets go out and purchase one or two. The jackpot is up to $252 million, and that is a cause of concern for some.

"Right now, people in the US are struggling, and when a jackpot like this comes along, they see it as a possible means to an end of their struggling," said observer Bill Hines, "people must be very controlled when a jackpot gets this big, and some just do not have that type of will power."

Problem gambling calls may be up to hot lines across the country today and the rest of the week should nobody hit the jackpot in tonight's drawing. Some states have already begun preparations for the possible increase in calls.

The California Lottery, for instance, constantly teaches residents about the warning signs of problem gambling when it pertains to the lottery. They encourage residents not to spend their bill money, or borrow from friends and family to buy lottery tickets.

A similar situation occurred a couple of weeks ago when the Powerball Lottery was up over $200 million. Even though the chances of winning any of these multi-state lotteries are millions to one, people believe they can be that one.

Much attention is paid these days to what casinos could do to the problem gambling figures in individual states. The reality exists, however, that there is already a form of legalized gambling that is creating problems for families across the US, and that is lottery gambling.
