Seventh Grade Ontario Students Learning Of Online Gambling Dangers
Ontario has not yet entered the online gambling industry, but that is not stopping educators from getting a leg up on potential problems. Seventh grade students will learn about the dangers of Internet gambling as part of their curriculum.
The Ontario government has unveiled their curriculum for the upcoming school year that begins in September. Different social topics will be covered in different years of a child's education. Grade seven has been chosen for students to learn about online gambling, cyber-bullying, and other technologically created problems.
Online gambling has become a hot topic all across the world in recent years. Lawmakers in almost every country have argued that online gambling would lend itself to potential problems among underage gamblers. The program in the Ontario school curriculum shows how these problems can be prepared for.
"The Ontario government is taking a huge, but necessary step to ensure that they educate their youth about online gambling," said Gaming Analyst Steve Schwartz. "legislators are poised to make Internet gambling accessible, and the fact that the school system is out ahead of the curve shows the dedication to keeping problem gambling to a minimum in the future."
Starting in grade one, students will learn about different social issues. In first grade, students will learn about the Canada Food Guide, alerting children to healthy eating alternatives. The nutrition education will continue all the way through grade five. Bullying, alcohol, and abuse will be covered in grades four and five as well.
In grade six, students will get an education on peer pressure and the children will also learn about the media's role in providing pressure at this age. Grade seven students will learn about the online dangers, and grade eight is where educators will teach about violence. The use of defibrillators to save lives is also on the eighth grade curriculum.
