While the US continues to stay stuck with their outdated online gambling laws, another country is moving ahead of the US within the industry. The Netherlands is moving towards a regulated Internet gambling industry, proving again how regulations, and not prohibition, are the answer in the online gambling industry.
Holland Casino, the largest casino located in the Netherlands, has been lobbying for the past several years to expand their operations to the online community. The casino has expressed their interest in driving illegal online casino operators out of the country.
This is completely opposite of the US, where lawmakers are continuing to endorse illegal offshore online casinos by not offering their citizens protection in the form of regulation. More and more countries are understanding that online gambling prohibition is not the way to operate.
The right-wing coalition that is set to take office in the Netherlands is in favor of the Internet gambling regulations, and before long, laws should be in place that will allow Holland Casino to take their gaming options online. It will be a victory that millions of online gamblers will applaud.
In the US, considered to be the largest online gambling market in the world, prohibition continues with online poker players growing weary of the current lawmakers in office. Mid-term elections will be held in the country this November, and online gamblers are currently seeking candidates to support that will pledge to finally end the prohibition.
In the Netherlands, while the Internet gambling regulations appear likely, they idea will still face some opposition. Before the new proposals can become law, the incoming leadership must get their proposals through both houses in Parliament. There will surely be some stumbling blocks along the way during that process.
