First it was American Idol. Then it was Dancing with the Stars. Now, Throwdown with Bobby Flay has gamblers all across the US digging into their pockets to place a bet with their friends on who will win each week's showdown.

This week, Very Vera's Vera Stewart was up against Flay in a carrot cake showdown. It was a wild show that featured some exciting baking moments, but in the end it was Stewart that emerged victorious, and made small time gamblers throughout the country happy.

"Great overall carrot flavor. I like the icing although it's a little bit, not quite as southern as what I'm used to. We pick "B"," said judge and Augusta Mayor Deke Copenhaver. "B," of course, was Stewart's carrot cake and the pastry expert went home a winner.

Reality television has become the most popular form of show on today. American idol opened the door for reality television to succeed, and all types of programs have popped up in the past decade. Whatever the topic, there is a good chance that a reality television show exists about it.

The gambling aspect of these reality shows has just become popular in the past four years. Online sports books started to offer odds on who would win the dancing and singing competitions. The match making shows, such as The bachelor, also have odds placed on their contestants.

The betting has become so big that even casual viewers are getting in on the action. Several reality TV watchers that we interviewed claimed to make bets with their friends on who will win their favorite shows.

"I have been watching American Idol for three years now, and each year, when the final twelve are picked, my friends and I all pick our favorites and bet dinner on the outcome," said Margaret Colley. "Then, when the winner is announced at the end of the season, the friend with that contestant gets a free dinner on the rest of the group."
