Deal me In Because It Is Poker Season
'Tis the season the 2006 World Series of Poker begins in late June, and the poker community is building a head of steam as we zoom toward our annual world championships. Every major online site is running satellite tournaments whose winners will receive an entry to the WSOP Main Event. Most casinos, including our local ones, are also holding WSOP qualifiers. Poker rooms all over the world are buzzing with excitement as players ask each other, "Are you going?"I'm going, that's for sure.
After last year, my first time, I wouldn't miss it for anything. With more than 40 different events held over a six-week period, it's the vortex of everything poker. I still haven't won my entry into the Main Event (the $10,000 price tag makes winning, not buying, a necessity), but I am slugging away, still hopeful. However, per the game plan I've had all year, I will pay my way into the Ladies and Seniors events. In point of fact, I should have already earned an entry into the WSOP Ladies Event. It was supposed to be a part of the prize package when I won the LIPS (Ladies in Poker Series) tournament at Casino Soboba.
But, for reasons still not satisfactorily explained, Soboba has apparently reneged on that promise. I hope to report the situation is rectified in a future column.
