New Law Makes Online Gambling... A Felony!
Starting June 7th, gambling on the internet will become a felony in Washington State. News of the ban is slowly spreading through the gambling community. Many gamblers we spoke to today at Big Daddy's Casino on the South Hill say they were unaware of the ban and questioned how it will be enforced.
Right now, online gambling is a misdemeanor. Next week, it becomes a Class C felony, the same as possessing child pornography or torturing an animal. Internet gambling is already prohibited by several federal laws, which is why many of the big gambling sites are operated from out of the country. Local card rooms say they could benefit from the increased penalties, because gamblers would not want to risk prosecution by playing online.
