Why This Voter Apathy On Gambling Laws?

About six years ago, there was a presidential election clouded in controversy dealing with whether or not the laws or the Constitution had been violated. Votes were accused of not being counted properly if at all. I feel the same thing happens here in Oregon with our ridiculous law stating that tax measures need to have 50 percent turnout in order to count.

In my classroom, I have a sticker that reads, The world is run by those who show up. If people do not want to vote, that is fine. However, why should my vote not count just because others choose not to This is a law that punishes those who choose to participate in the democratic system and needs to be changed. I know some would say, Well, then the minority (those who vote) are going to be making monetary decisions for all. For those who would make such statements, the solution is simple: Be educated about the issues, get involved, and vote. The Albany School District will be adding teaching positions next year. This is because more students will attend Albany schools than this year.

With each new student the district gets money from the state to help cover the cost of staff time, bus transportation and instructional materials. As the student population continues to grow, and staffing is increased, a problem is not having enough classrooms. As a consequence, class sizes are increasing and students are being bused to other schools in the district where there is still a little room. As an example, one whole class of kindergarten students will have to be moved to another elementary school across town so that the classroom can be used both morning and afternoon for additional classes.
