Bowling alleys used to be a place people could go and not only bowl, but also go in the game room and play video games, darts, and pool. That is now3 changing in some alleys.

Bel-Mark Lanes in Ann Arbor, Michigan is taking full advantage of the poker craze that has been sweeping the nation. They have removed their pool tables from their game room, and replaced them with poker tables.

The new room is used to hold charity poker games. Different charities can use the room, and the profits are split 50/50 between the charities and the owners of the bowling alley. The games are run by directors from the charities.

For the alley to be able to offer the poker room, a four day license must be secured from the State Lottery. Once that is taken care of, the Poker Palace, which it is called, then supplies the tables and the dealers for the charities.

"For the charities, this is a very productive fundraiser. You're looking at over $1,000 a day that they're actually able to take in. Where else can you do that? They can't do it with cake or bake sales," said Randy Roe, one of the creators of the Poker Palace.

While the alley had pool tables in the room for almost twenty years, the poker has so far been a success. They have also added two flat screen televisions to the room. The room opened on April 10th of this year.
