Chino Rheem Wins Doyle Brunson World Poker Tour Championship
The world of professional poker continues even long after the World Series has ended. The World Poker Tour was at the Bellagio in Las Vegas this past week for the Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic.
David Rheem had yet to break through and win a WPT championship, but that all ended with a strong showing in the Brunson tournament. Rheem finished first and took home over $1.5 million.
The tournament was a tremendous event heading towards the end of the year. 497 players entered the $15,000 buy-in tournament, but only Rheem was left standing at the end of the week. He held off Justin Young, the second place finisher for the title.
Young walked away with more than just a consolation prize. He left the Bellagio with almost $1 million for second place. Evan McNiff finished in third, winning $540,440.
The WPT was put on the back burner for a while this year after the
World Series of Poker
moved their Main Event final table to November. It was the first year that the Main Event did not end along with the rest of the World Series in July.
The Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic is one of the premier events this year for the WPT. Rheem emerged from the field with strong play throughout the tournament in winning his first WPT championship.
