College Football Betting Odds: Hokies And Crimson Tide Eye Opener
When two top ten teams meet in the seasons first week, it is usually a recipe for disaster for the losing team. While the winning team gains instant credibility, the loser faces questions about being over hyped.
That will be the scenario facing Virginia Tech and Alabama in the first week of the college football season. The Hokies and Crimson Tide will face off in a battle of two teams expected to compete for a national title.
Alabama looked like the best team in football for most of last season. They began the season 12-0, and were on their way to the title game when they faced Florida in the SEC Championship. The Gators won that game, and went on to the title, while Alabama lost their bowl game to finish 12-2.
Virginia Tech, as has been the case in most years since they entered the ACC, won the conference title and was in a BCS Bowl game. This year, the Hokies have their sights set on a bigger prize, however, hoping to win a national championship.
While that game is a match up of the two highest ranked teams facing each other in week one, it is not the prime time match up of the week. That distinction goes to the Miami Hurricanes and Florida State Seminoles.
The Seminoles and Hurricanes will play on Labor Day night, as has become the custom for the two teams. The last two years they played in the middle of the season, but before that, they had matched up on Labor day several years in a row.
