Video Poker Means North Carolina Jobs
Legal video poker machines in North Carolina directly contribute over $100 million to the economy and jobs for 1,752, a consulting firm hired by the gaming industry said Wednesday. "I knew we had a significant value," said Richard Frye, a spokesman for the North Carolina Amusement Machine Association. "I would certainly think they'll look at the economic impact and start listening to us.
"Video poker gaming supports 1,752 jobs including owners, technicians and repairmen. The machines provide another 643 indirect jobs, representing workers in convenience stores, bars or restaurants where the machines are located, the study said. The industry pays about $57 million of direct and indirect salaries to those workers, the study said. Along with $103. 9 million the industry pumps into the state's economy, the spin-off effects represent another $63. 4 million, the report said.
