Crown Casino Has Australian Aussie Millions Poker Champion
Almost seven hundred poker players, including some of the top players in the world, gathered at the Crown Casino for one of the biggest tournaments in the world, the Aussie Millions. It was countryman Stewart Scott that outlasted the others and won the event.
Scott came into the tournament facing some long odds. Among the players in the 680 person field were Mark Philippoussis, Scotty Nguyen, and Chris "Jesus" Ferguson. If Scott was going to win, he was going to have to go through the best in the world to do so.
Early in the tournament it did not appear that Scott would play strong enough to win the title. that all changed on the tournaments final day. He took the lead and brought a huge chip lead into the final table.
No competitor even had half of what Scott began the final table with. One by one, the challengers dropped from the final table, and after hours of play, it came down to Scott and American Peter Rho.
The final hand proved to be a classic battle. Rho moved all in after seeing his Ace-Jack hole cards. Scott immediately called and flipped over pocket aces. The best statistical hand in poker held up and Scott became the champion with a full house, aces over nines.
Professional player had started the tournament four days earlier by issuing a challenge to his fellow Australians. He told a crowd that it was time that an Australian won this event that was played in their backyard. His words ended up being prophetical after Scott won the title.
