Diamond Jim's Makes Way for Pai Gow Tables
When the final hand is dealt at Diamond Jim's Casino in Sunday's Texas Hold 'Em tournament, it is likely that six Antelope Valley residents will be heading to the multimillion-dollar, main event of the 2006 World Series of Poker, starting July 28 at the Rio in Las Vegas.
In consecutive Sunday tournaments - June 4 and June 11, two Palmdale residents, a Rosamond resident and a Lancaster resident each won $10,000 seats to the 2006 event, plus $1,000 traveling expenses. If Sunday, Father's Day, pans out as the previous two, another 200 people will vie for the final two WSOP seats in Diamond Jim's tournaments.
That means they'll have a chance to test their Texas Hold 'Em poker skills against the likes of poker legends Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, Phil Ivey, Josh Arieh and T.J. Cloutier. "They were lined up at 7:30 a.m.," said Bob Burgum, assistant manager and tournament director after the first Sunday tournament.
