Michael Spegal found himself in a precarious situation on Tuesday night, he was playing at the final table of event four of the WSOP, the $1500 pot limit hold'em tourney, while his wife cheered him on from the stands. The tricky part for Spegal was that it was the couples wedding anniversary. It turns out that Spegal gave his wife a present of $252,290 after winning the tournament. He joked after the tourney that she could have the money, he just wanted the bracelet.

Spegal was in sixth place in the chip count going into the final table, but outdueled pro Gavin Smith to take the title. Smith is widely regarded as the best player in the world to not have a WSOP win.

In other action ending Tuesday, the $2500 Omaha hi/lo tournament, event #5, also concluded, ironically enough, just minutes after event four ended, with Tom Schneider of Scottsdale, Arizona winning first place. He was awarded $214,387 for the win. Winning did not come easy for Scneider as he had to fend off some of the top pros in the world at the final table. Annie Duke finished the tourney in third, Chris "jesus" Ferguson was fourth, and Scotty Nguyen, the 1998 world champion, finished tenth.

Other events that were still in progress were events seven, eight, and nine.

Today's new events that were beginning were #10, a $2000 No Limit Hold'em event, and #11, the $5000 World Championship Seven Card Stud.
