Final Two Ready To Square Off For WSOP Main Event Title
Dennis Phillips used his fame of getting to the final table at the World Series of Poker Main Event final table for good. He has helped several charities, and he was hoping some of that charity work would pay off with a title.
It did not work out that way for Phillips, who was eliminated from the final table in third place. He entered the final table as the chip leader, but took some early beats and ended up climbing back to finish third.
That leaves only two players to battle for the Main Event bracelet and the $9,152,416 that will go with it. The players are not separated by many chips, so the action could go on for a while.
Peter Eastgate is the current chip leader. He has 79,500,000 chips. Ivan Demidov has 57,725,000 chips. The two players will go back and forth until one is left with no chips. At that time, the other will add his name to the list of Main Event champions.
As for Phillips, he seemed upbeat, even after the third place finish. "I came in here telling you I was gonna have fun, and I guarantee you, I had fun," he said. For his efforts, Phillips took home third place money equalling $4.5 million.
