First Days of World Series of Poker About Chaos

The 2007 World Series of Poker has begun and if the first two days are any example of what's to come, Las Vegas is going to have it's hands full, as thousands of thousands of players have shown up for the beginning of the Series.

Many things have gone wrong to start this years Series off, but organizers plan to get some of the kinks worked out and hope the rest of the two months will run smoothly.

One of the problems that is being encountered is long waiting lines. Players are showing up sometimes as early as 6am hoping to beat the crowds and sign up for their tournaments. That has not been the case though, as even the early arrivers have waited in long lines and have waited in some cases a few hours to sign up.

Another of the major problems so far is running multiple events on the same day, creating back ups in tournament start times. For instance, the five thousand dollar mixed hold-em event was set to begin at 2pm Saturday, but was backed up several hours waiting for 900 players to be gone from the tourney that started before it.

the first $1500 no limit hold-em event saw 3000 entries, as well as 800 alternates. That figure is up from 2700 that played in the event last year.

One professional in particular got off to a good start on day one, as Phil Hellmuth received a nice payout after hitting the ultimate hand, a royal flush. Other big name pros in the field are Mike Matusow, Chad Brown, and Annie Duke.
