First The Olympics, Now A World Class Poker Tournament For Seoul
First, the game of poker began to grow in popularity in the United States, now the game is turning into a global phenomenon as more and more countries are starting to host World class events.
The latest country to get in on the act is North Korea. The Asian Pacific region has never hosted a tournament with such significance, but now Seoul is set to bring some of the World's best players overseas to showcase their talents.
Former champion Joe Hachem will be among the many former champions that will play in the tournament, which is being sponsored by U.S. based online poker site Pokerstars.net.
Poker in Korea is growing in popularity, but most Koreans prefer seven card stud to the game of Texas Hold'em, which will be played at the tournament.
One thing that will be missing from the tournament, however, is television coverage. In the United States, there is a craze over watching poker on television, but there will be no such luck for the Koreans. The government sees poker as gambling, so there can be no television exposure.
The tournament will be held Sept. 28th through the 30th at the Paradise Seoul Casino of Sheraton Walkerhill Hotel.
