Former Baseball National Champion Wins WSOP Bracelet
Eric Baldwin was a right fielder for an NCAA Division III college baseball championship team. Back in 2005, Baldwin and his fellow Warhawks from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater became champions.
That experience can now do down as the second best championship run of Baldwin's young life. On Thursday, he beat out a field of 2,095 to capture his first World Series of Poker bracelet in Event 34, a No-Limit Hold'em tournament. Baldwin won $521,991 for his first place finish.
The World Championship Limit Hold'em event has also come to a conclusion. Greg Mueller took the top spot and over $450,000. Pat Pezzin finished in second, and well known professional player Chad Brown finished in third.
Event 32 was another No-Limit Hold'em tournament. Angel Guillen was the winner, with Mike Paasonen finishing in second. They won $530,548 and $326,203, respectively. The tournament had a $2,000 buy-in, and 1,534 players entered.
James Van Alstyne was the bracelet winner in Event 31, a H.O.R.S.E tournament. He won just under $300,000 for his efforts. Tad Jurgens finished in second place, and Mitch Schock came in third.
Four tournaments are still in progress at the Rio in Las Vegas. On Saturday two more tournaments will begin, and Sunday brings the No-Limit Hold'em Shootout, with a maximum of 1,000 players.
