Former Mankatoan Wins seat at World Series of Poker
A winning streak took one former Mankato man from the poker tables at Ruttles in St. Peter to a state Texas Hold ?Em tournament at Jackpot Junction. Heller, who now lives in Burnsville, made a big bet on pocket jacks to win the Minnesota Poker League tournament Sunday. The first-place finish earned him the $10,000 buy-in for a seat at the 2006 World Series of Poker in July at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Ruttles owner Jay Reasner, a friend of Heller?s, said his buddy has a knack for the game that has swept the nation. Heller learned Texas Hold ?Em by playing in home games with Reasner and a few others. Those regular gatherings began about four years ago, when Hold ?Em tournaments first started to take over the broadcast schedule on a number of cable television channels.
