Ghosts Of World Series Of Poker Past Haunting Main Event
The World Series of Poker Main Event in the past few years has been a showcase for amateurs to finally have their name in lights. The top pros have not done as well as some would expect, but this year, that could all change.
The Main Event began play again on Friday with all players playing at the same time. The day began with over 1,700 players left, and as it is moving along, there are now only 1,431 still playing. who is still playing is somewhat surprising considering recent history.
Phil Ivey, one of the most recognizable players in the world, is not only still in the tournament, but he is hovering near the top of the chip stacks. At last check Ivey was sitting on 430,000 chips.
Another Phil, Hellmuth, is also alive and kicking. The "Poker Brat" is just below Ivey with 390,000 chips. The fact that two of the top players in the world have that many chips at this point in the tournament should strike some fear into the amateurs that are left.
In addition to Ivey and Hellmuth, there are a plethora of other top names remaining. Mike Sexton, Dennis Phillips, David Benyamine, Bertrand Grosspellier, Theo Tran, Andy Black, Joe Hachem, John Juanda, Jeff Lisandro, and last years winner, Peter Eastgate are just a sampling of the top players left.
The celebrities are also being well represented by Lou Diamond Phillips. He has not only made it through to this level of the competition, but he is sitting pretty with 335,000 chips.
