Jamie Gold is becoming a household name as this ace is dominating the field and moving on to challenge for the poker world series chamionship.

The big news out of the WSOP is that Humberto Brenes is one of the last big-name pros still in the running to win with 480,000 in chips remaining in his stack. Brenes was playing cautiously, even folding a pair of jacks when an opponent bet an amount that would put him all-in. "I have time. I'll come back," he said.

Jamie Gold, the 36-year-old former agent to "The Sopranos" star James Gandolfini and "Desperate Housewives" actress Felicity Huffman, was the star of the day and in the lead with $5.7 million in chips. Gold attributed his success to 40 hours of poker a week, playing the big cash game at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles and coaching by mentor Johnny Chan. "In exchange for me helping him in the entertainment field, he helped me with my poker game," Gold said. The leaders following Sunday's play behind Jamie Gold are Erik Friberg with $4.7 chips, Jeffrey Lisandro $3.4 chips, Mike Binger $3.3 chips, and Eric Molina with $3.2 chips.

One of two female players left in the field, Annie Duke is making noise throughout the competition. She left the game in tears after her Ace-Three did not improve. The other female still in the competition, Sabyl Cohen, still had $500,000 in chips as of 11 p.m. CDT Sunday.

As of late Sunday, only four previous WSOP bracelet winners remained in the main event field. Dan Schmiech and Prahlad Freidman were among the top 12 in chips, while well-known professionals Brenes and Allen Cunningham were among the shorter stacks of the 65 remaining players.

Today, whatever number of survivors remain from Sunday will play down to the last 27. With 65 players left late last night, play is going a day faster than expected, so tournament organizers hope to give the players a rest Wednesday, before the final table of nine begins Thursday.

The winner will take home a top prize of $12 million while the final 12 will all win more than $1 million.
