Harrah's Entertainment Announces 2007 WSOP Schedule
Harrah's Entertainment has announced that the 38th annual World Series of Poker, presented by Milwaukee's Best Light, will begin June 1, 2007 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino and the final table of the $10,000 buy-in tournament will begin on July 17.
We will have to wait that long to find out whether the US ban will have an effect on the annual tournament that saw its largest playing field in history in 2006 with more than 8,000 registrants.
The majority of players who enter the tournament do not pay the entry fee themselves, they are typically sponsored by online poker rooms after winning tournaments that are held all year long.
Although Poker Stars, a very big contributor to the annual event, is still alive and kicking, and Doyle's Room is growing in popularity, Party Poker, the biggest online poker room in the world is no longer accepting US bettors. Neither will Pokerroom.com be accepting bets from US players come Monday, and several other well known and played at sites are also gone from the US market.
So far the US Internet Gambling Ban has not slowed down the play of online poker, but if something happens, like if #1 payment processor Neteller shuts down because of the new law, the amount of US players playing poker online could drop significantly, and that would have a huge impact on next year's WSOP tournament.
