Hellmuth Makes Grand Entrance At World Series Of Poker
Phil Hellmuth enjoys the attention that he creates. At first, it was his baby antics at the poker tables that garnered his attention, but now it is his grand entrance every year at the World Series of Poker Main Event.
This year was no different for Hellmuth. He arrived in a parade like atmosphere to the Rio in Las Vegas dressed as Julius Caesar, and he was not alone. There were many ladies who wore only body paint that accompanied him to his table.
"This guy just gets more outrageous every year," said Mike Franc, who was waiting outside the Rio when Hellmuth arrived, "I come to Las Vegas every year just to see what Phil is going to do and who he will arrive as."
Last year, Hellmuth showed up as General Patton. It did not help him, however, at the tables. Hellmuth did not win the Main Event last year and has not won it since 1989. Hellmuth believes that his entrance is just part of the show that is helping promote the game of poker.
"We're just having as much fun as we can have," said Hellmuth, "I thought it was great. Having the girls with the body paint was just fun. I mean, come on, how often do you see girls with just body paint on?"
Eleven models were wearing the body paint and escorted Hellmuth into the Rio. Once inside, eighty models were there to thrown rose pedals at his feet. The entrance was marked with drums and horns.
