High Stakes Gambling Under Way At World Series Of Poker

The World series of Poker has started in grand fashion this year, throwing caution to the wind when it comes to the economy. The second event of the tournament carried with it a $40,000 entry fee, and over 200 players joined.

Of the 201 players that have entered, the event has already come down to the final twenty-three players. Justin Bonomo currently has the chip lead with 2,678,000 chips. Ted Forrest is second in command with 2,586,000.

The bigger issue was whether players were going to fork out big money to play in the series this year. In past years, thousands of people have played with little regard for the frequent $1,500 entry fees. This year, however, it may be a little different.

"I don't know if we are going to see the type of turnout that we have seen in the past," said observer Tracy Bresker, "but we will still see the top professionals, just not as many amateur players."

Of the remaining players in the big Texas Hold'em tournament, Greg Raymer, a former WSOP Main Event winner is sitting in a position of power with over 2,000,000 chips. The tournament is set to go down to the final eighteen players and then break until tomorrow.
