I. Nelson Rose Advises Online Poker Players To Diversify

USA Players Accepted at Rome Casino!

Online poker players in the US have been in a panic since earlier this week when the government seized over $30 million in player winnings. Many of the players, for fear of not being paid, have stopped depositing money into their online poker sites.

I. Nelson Rose, a gambling law expert at Whittier Law School, has told Matt Richtel of The New York Times, that poker players should not give up their efforts to play online. They should just diversify.

"Now, you not only have to find a way to get money to a place you trust and that's going to be honest," Rose told Richtel, "you have to get money back and hope it doesn't get seized." Rose went on to tell Richtel that the way to keep playing is to not keep a lot of money in any one account, but to spread the money out over several different accounts.

Even though the government has tried to seize the money, the poker advocate groups are up in arms over the move. The Poker Players Alliance contends that online poker is not even illegal, and that the money is being seized incorrectly.

Online gambling is a hot issue in the US these days. Representative Barney Frank has introduced legislation that would overturn the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act while also legalizing and regulating online gambling.

The European Union has also informed the US government that their Internet gambling laws must be changed. The EU claims that the current laws violate trade agreements within the EU, and they have given the US a grace period to come into compliance. If no agreement is met, the EU could take their case to the World Trade Organization.
