Jerome Bettis knows how to win championships. In his time playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Bettis won an NFL championship in his hometown of Detroit, Michigan. On Saturday, Bettis took his competitive nature to the World Series of Poker.

The Ante Up For Africa fundraising event was held Saturday, and eighty-three players entered and paid the $5,000 entry fee. The top poker players in the world were joined by celebrities for the tournament, with Bettis being one of the players.

The future Hall of Fame running back went deep into the tournament, reaching the final table. After the first three players were eliminated from the final table, it was time for "The Bus" to leave the station.

The hand that Bettis was sent to the rail with was K diamonds Q hearts. Carter Phillips was against Bettis with a J diamonds 4 spades. The flop hit Phillips twice with both a jack and a four. The turn came a queen, giving Bettis a chance, but a two came on the river, and Bettis was eliminated.

That left Phillips, Erik Seidel, Aleksey Filatov, Shannon Elizabeth, and Phil Gordon to battle for the first place prize of $129,086. Gordon and Elizabeth eventually made it to a head to head match up, and Gordon prevailed. Elizabeth took home $79,776 for the second place finish.

Today, one of the most popular tournaments for fans will conclude. The Tournament of Champions began earlier in the week, but has been on hold while the players remaining competed in other events. When play resumes, Mike Matusow will be in control with the chip lead, but several other players will be hot on his trail.

On Monday, the main event will begin. The buy-in for the main event is $10,000, and if attendance so far at the WSOP is any indication, the main event should have more players than last year.
