Ladies Set To Take Center Stage at Poker Tournament in Arizona
Each state has different poker tournaments that are run for specific groups of people. Long ago it would just be the men who sat around poker tables and played the game, but as its popularity grew over the past few years, women have gotten into the act.
This Saturday in Arizona over 400 women will gather at Casino Arizona to do battle for the coveted title of "Queen of Poker". The title is not the only thing that these ladies will be competing for, there is also the small sum of $50,000 that will go to the winner. A trophy and a necklace will be awarded also.
The top 45 finalists this year will receive cash prizes, the lowest of which will be places 31 through 45, who will take home $325 each. The total prize pool is guaranteed at $125,000.
The tournament is in its second year, last years winner came from Tuscon, Arizona, and Debbie Blair was surely happy that she got up at 6:00 A.M. and made the two hour drive to enter the tournament.
These women's events are becoming more and more popular and are being held at casinos from state to state. The World Series of Poker this year had several events that were ladies only events, and there are also more women professionals than there have ever been before, further showing that the game of poker is ever growing in popularity.
The starting time for Saturday's tournament is 9:00 A.M.
