Less Than 1,000 Players Left At World Series Of Poker Main Event
The 2010 World Series of Poker main event is starting to develop the story lines that will take the tournament into November. On day four, hundreds of players have been sent to the rail, leaving only 751 of the 7,319 participants remaining to compete for the gold bracelet.
Theo Jorgensen has been the story of day four, taking the chip lead to the dinner break. Jorgensen has 1,325,000 chips, with Duy Le close behind at 1,320,000 chips. Every player in the top ten has at least one million in chips.
Johnny Chan had been hovering near the top on day three, but he has dropped slightly today. Chan is still in the top-twenty five with 785,000 chips. Of all the professional players, Chan is the one that knows how to win this main event better than anyone. Chan has won the main event twice.
Several of the biggest names in poker have been eliminated on day four. Annie Duke was having a strong tournament, but she fizzled on day four, and will not make an appearance at the final table. Kathy Liebert and Dewey Tomko suffered similar fates and will have to watch the rest of the tournament from the rail.
The area to currently find some other top pros in near the bust out point. Dan Harrington, Frank Kassela, Theo Tran, Gavin Smith, and Michael Mizrachi are all holding less that 120,000 chips. The players have just returned from a dinner break and play has resumed.
The main event will continue through this weekend. When the final table is determined, there will then be a four month break, then play will continue in November. Last year, Phil Ivey made the final table, and Tran is looking to do the same by the end of this week.
