Gamblers on Pace to Lose More Money Playing Poker is the best to play online poker!

Two hurricanes left fewer locations and even fewer machines, but gamblers are on pace to lose more money playing video poker this year than they did the year before. Even though play took a nosedive in the immediate weeks after Katrina and Rita, video poker revenue is up for the state's fiscal year, which ends June 30.

Through April, the machines had taken in 566-point-three (m) million for 2005-2006, compared with the year-ago figure of 485-point-six (m) million dollars. For all of the 2004-2005 fiscal year, gamblers lost 583-point-four (m) million dollars. Last month alone, the 12-thousand-696 machines at bars, restaurants, truck stops, race tracks and off-track betting locations won 58-point-two (m) million dollars from gamblers.

In April 2005, when there were 14-thousand-457 machines in operation, gamblers lost 51-point-six (m) million dollars. In April, there were two-thousand-646 locations in Louisiana offering video poker, a loss of 500 over the year. Copyright 2006 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
