National Heads-Up Poker Championship Begins at Caesars Palace

The National Heads-Up Poker Championship is now in its fourth year. Last year, Paul Wasicka came away with the championship title. On Friday, the fourth version of the tourney got started at Caesars Palace.

The tournament is set up like a bracket style tournament. It begins with sixty four card players matched up in one on one match ups. Play will then continue until everybody except two players are left. Those two players will then play a two out of three match to win the title.

The grand prize for this year's tournament is $500,000. The play is being taped by NBC Sports and will air as a series starting in April.

Shannon Elizabeth had her poker playing coming out party last year at this event, when she did very well. This year, however, the luck was not with her. She was eliminated on the tournaments first day by one of the favorites to win, Andy Bloch.

Wasicka will not repeat as champion after he also was a first day casualty. He lost to Freddy Deeb. Play continues through the weekend and will end with the final pairing on Sunday.
