Negreanu Lingering At World Series Of Poker Europe Main Event
Daniel Negreanu is considered by many to be the most recognizable name in professional poker. Turn on a television to any poker tournament showing and there is a good chance that the cameras will find their way to Negreanu at some point in the telecast.
Saturday, the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event began and Negreanu is already making his presence felt. He is sitting towards the top of the chip count standings with still many players in the tournament.
Brian Powell is the overall leader with 220,000 chips. Tommy Pavlicek is second with 212,000 chips and Jason Mercier, who was the early leader, is third with 195,000 chips. The tournament cost $14,240 to enter, and the pros have come out in full force for the event.
Negreanu was not the only big name pro that was hovering near the top of the leader board. Doyle Brunson is actually in the top twenty in chip stacks with 131,525 chips. Antonio Esfandiary is just ahead of Brunson at 132,475 chips. Negreanu is currently sitting with 108,000 chips.
The Main Event that began on Saturday will run through Thursday. The prize pool and total number of players that have entered has yet to be announced. Players began the tournament with 30,000 chips.
Monday marked the first day that the full field began playing together. Over the weekend a Day 1A and 1B were held. Already some of the biggest names in the sport such as JC Tran and Jennifer Harman have been eliminated.
